Project Timeline

SAVE Science is a five-year project that will be carried out in schools of the School District of Philadelphia and the Chester County Intermediate Unit. Following is a year-by-year timeline for the project.

Year 1

  • Design assessment unit curriculum for Grade 7
  • Design SimLandia worlds
  • Design database system to record data and produce output for teachers
  • Design professional development program
  • Design survey instruments
  • Pilot SimLandia professional development program, curriculum, and survey instruments with a small representative sample population

Year 2

  • Solicit and then conduct professional development for 7th-grade teachers
  • Implement assessment modules for 7th-grade students
  • Evaluate program and make changes as needed for more effective implementation
  • Conduct a preliminary analysis of data as relates to research questions
  • Design assessment unit curriculum and worlds for Grade 8

Year 3

  • Conduct professional development for 7th- and 8th-grade teachers
  • Implement assessment modules for 7th- and 8th-grade students
  • Evaluate program and make changes as needed for more effective implementation
  • Conduct a preliminary analysis of data as relates to research questions

Year 4

  • Conduct professional development for 7th, and 8th grade teachers
  • Implement assessment modules for 7th, and 8th grade students
